Scientific name: Ammotragus lervia

Identification: Sandy-brown, darkening with age, with a slightly lighter underbelly and darker line along the back. Shaggy hair on the throat with a sparse mane. The horns curve outward, backward, then inward. 

Mass: 50-140 kg  / 110-308 lbs

Shoulder height: 60-90 cm  / 23-35 “

Life expectancy: 20 years

Habitat: Arid mountain areas where graze and browse is available. They can get all their water from the food they eat, and therefore surface water is not a necessity. 

Habits: Barbary sheep are active in the early morning and late afternoon. They are well adapted to their rocky habitat, being able to achieve a standing 2meter jump. They flee at the first sight of danger, fleeing uphill.
