Buffalo

Scientific name:Cyncerus caffer

Identification: Large , cattle like animal. Grey/black in color. Tend to take on the color of the soil in the area, as they role around in the dirt. Both bulls and cows carry horns. 

Mass: 750-820 kg  / 1650-1800 lbs

Shoulder height: 170 cm  /  66″

Life expectancy: 23 years

Habitat: Dependent on sufficient grass. Prefer areas with trees for shade. Tend to avoid open grass plains far away from trees.

Habits: Forms large herds. In the summer months they break away into smaller herds. Buffalo never stray to far from water as they are dependent on daily water consumption. Herds are differentiated into mixed or bachelor herds. While old bulls tend to walk alone. In the herds there is a clear hierarchy. They feed during the cooler times of the day and rest in the shade during the warmer times. Buffalo are dangerous animals to hunt, great caution should be taken, especially when a animal is wounded. They don’t call them black death for no reason.
