Identification:  Largest of all antelope. Mature bulls have a large hump, dewlap and a tuft of hair on the forehead. Old bulls are referred to as blue bulls as they get a blue/grey color.

​Life expectancy: 12 years

​Habitat: Extremely adaptable animal, occurs in semi-desert, bushveld, scrub covered plains and mountains grasslands. Tends to avoid large open grass plains.

​Habits: Hierarchy in the herd is determined by age and size. During calving season bulls do not stay with the cows, afterwards however they mix again to form breeding herds. In the winter young bulls leave the herd to form bachelor groups.
