Scientific name: Tragelaphus strepsiceros
Identification: Large regal animal with impressive cork screw horns. White chevron between the eyes, white spots on the side of the face as well as white stripes on its flanks. The oldest bulls have darker necks due to hair fall.

Life expectancy: 14 years
Habitat: Bushveld species. Prefers sparse tree cover, specially thorn trees. Found everywhere from scrub covered plains to rocky mountains.
Habits: Forms herds of 4-12 animals which are made up of cows, calves and young bulls. During the mating season a mature bull will accompany the herd. Outside of mating season bulls for bachelor herds or walk alone. Extremely sky and will run at the first sign of danger. When running away their tail curls up to present the white bottom side.
