Identification: Large bodied animal. Black with a white belly. The face has white patterns on. Long back curved horns.

Mass: 180-250 kg  /  396-550 lbs

Shoulder height: 140 cm  /  55″

Life expectancy: 17 years

Habitat: Cover and water are of vital importance for them, rarely further than 3 km away from water. Prefers bush-veld or grasslands with medium to tall grass. Avoids very dense bush.

Habits: Territorial bulls defend their territories with intimidating displays. Young animals with a dominant cow as their leader moves around territories of young bulls. Young bulls three years of age join bachelor herds and stay there till they are five or six years old.
