Scientific name:  Raphicerus campestris

Identification: One of the tiny ten. Large ears compared to body size. brown/red body color. The inside of the ear is white with black stripes and a short black stripe vertically above the nose. White patch on its backside. 

Mass: 9-13 kg  /  20-29 lbs

Shoulder height: 52 cm  /  20″

Life expectancy: 6 years

Habitat: Open grassland with patches of tall grass or scrubs for cover. Tends to stay away from mountainous areas and open grass plains.

Habits: Walks alone or in pairs. Establish territories which both male and female protects. They defecate on the borders of these territories in order to mark their area. The have scent glands on the face and between the hooves with which they mark bushes around their territories. They tend to lay still until the threat is almost with them before they jump up and run away.
