Scientific name: Phacochoerus aethiopicus

Identification: Broad snout with long teeth (tusks) curling upward out of the mouth. Large growths (warts) on the face. Tail will be erect when startled. 

Mass: 60-100 kg  /  132-220 lbs

Shoulder height: 60 cm  /  23″

Life expectancy: 20 years

Habitat: Prefers open bushveld with grass-covered plains and mud pools. Very fond of new grass after an area has been burned.

Habits: Very diverse in structure. Can form family groups (with a boar, sow and piglets), groups with just sows and piglets, or boar droves with a temporary bond. Active in day time, at night they sleep in old anteater burrows.
