Waterbuck

Scientific name: Kobus ellipsiprymnus

Identification: Large-bodied antelope. Grey-brown body with a distinct white circle on its rump. Long and coarse hair. Bulls have a musky smell. 

Mass: 250-270 kg  /  550-594 lbs

Shoulder height:  130 cm  /  51″

Life expectancy: 14 years

Habitat: Bushveld species. Never far from water. Prefers river plains with trees over dense river bush.

Habits: Normally forms small herds. The hierarchy in herds are based on size and age. In calving season bulls and female herds separate. Young animals later joins female herds and for breeding herds. Breeding herds are peaceful but serious fights occur in bachelor herds.
